This is a newly developed website for Young Adults who are part of the Rock library system. We discovered we ran great holiday programmes up till you were 12 years old and then nadda, nothing!
We thought we better fix that quick smart so we started this site so you can share what you love to read, come into the library for book club (or not) and write reviews.
We also recognise some of you have enormous enthusiasm for writing so we wanted to create a safe place where you can share your writing and get helpful info from workshops (in the library and online). This isn't school you don't have to contribute if you don't want to and don't expect us to mark and correct your work!
Give feedback to each other, but keep in positive and constructive. You all know how it feels to put your creation out there so let's keep encouraging one another to do our best work.
At this point in time we have the basics of the site developed such as commenting on book reviews, other's writing and contributing to the online book club. As our online community builds, you will have the opportunity to write your own book reviews and upload book trailers you've made, as well as post your own writing. For now, if you have stuff you want to upload, send it through contact. I know this isn't ideal, but we're too cheap to buy the pro website features just at the minute.
We want this site to be a collaborative effort and create an opportunity for you to provide user created content (because that's what you like), give ratings on book reviews and receive constructive feedback on your own writing. We didn't include a rating tool for your own writing, because it would be too easy to rate someone's work and not give a valid reason. We know it takes enormous courage to share your writing on a site such as this and when don't want to create a culture where people can say, "This is crap!" without giving an explanation.
As chat functions and real time live events are added to the site, our hope is that you might build some positive relationships with each other and might even meet in the library sometime. Discussion forum already exists for our online book club and I recommend you get in board and talk up your favourite books like crazy!
We envision a membership sign in and directory in the future along with a live chat room and encourage you to create an Avatar to protect your identity (if you want) and a free gmail address to use for file sharing when we introduce writer's projects. One day soon, you'll have a page you can customise and add your own stuff to and if you want to share it, that's cool and if you don't, that's cool too.
Support this pilot project and you'll get more features! We promise and we're not just saying that.
Above all, storm the library's e collection and or physical collection and if we don't have something you are desperate to read, drop us a request via the main library website and we'll get it for you pronto! That's what we're here for.
Ta for now.
